1.7 is the most recent _release_ version, and as such it's the version that's referred to on Stalker's web site. However, it's at least a couple of years old and it has some significant spam vulnerabilities. There have been a series of 1.8 beta versions, the most recent of which is 1.8b9d14. The betas close (as far as I'm aware) all of the spam holes present in 1.7. They have also introduced some nice new features, like the ability to use multiple RBL servers. The betas are solid as bedrock -- many of us have been running 1.8b9.14 for months with no issues.
