It is rumored that on or about 2003-03-31 7:36 AM -0800, Matt Short wrote as follows:
I am using DSL and have a dynamic IP. When I tried to send an email to my wife's grandmother yesterday, I got an email back from her ISP (Earthlink) that says they won't deliver the email to their user since my email server is set up on a dynamic IP. They suggested that I set my email server to relay through my ISP's email server. However, in order to do that, my ISP wants login information each time. Those options aren't available in the SIMS SMTP Server menu. Can anyone suggest what I should do?

Matt

The easiest thing to do is to use SIMS for inbound mail only. For outbound mail, set your client up to use the upstream ISPs SMTP server. I have actually set up several profiles in Eudora - one uses SIMS exclusively, another uses SIMS inbound and my ISP outbound, and a third is entirely based at my ISP.

If you have other users on SIMS, have them do the same - use their ISP for outbound mail, but pick up inbound mail from SIMS.
