Try MGI (PagePlanetSoftware.com -- free) and PagePOP (www.mgistore.com)
also free, I believe.

Correct me if I'm wrong; but, whereas PagePOP is free, and the 9.x version of MGI is also free - it requires WebSTAR 4.x, which is not.

For Unix or OS X, try SquirrelMail

SquirrelMail requires a back-end IMAP4 server.

Which takes about 5 minutes to setup in OS X. OK, maybe 10.
