'Return-Path-A Search Error' means that SIMS can't resolve the domain part
of a message's Return-Path to an A record. I'd guess that your back-up
server is trying to relay a message to your main server where the
Return-Path (the SMTP MAIL-FROM argument) doesn't have a valid domain. Turn
the SMTP logging on the main server up to a level that records the SMTP
conversation and you should see what Return-Path address is causing the
problem.
