Can you say Spammers? A common trick spammers use is to search out the lowest priority mail server (basically your backup servers) and deliver to that machine. Typically backup servers have no accounts on them and they are a trusted source for the main server. Also typically backup servers do not share the same blacklisting features as your primary server. One trick some server admins have used is to add yet another DNS entry for the primary server with an even lower priority setting. This way, the spammers will hit the lowest priority box which in fact is your primary machine and has your full blacklists and anti-virus fighting tools. Hope this helps.
