Yup, that should be fine.

authenticate on that server anyway (so why encourage a spammer to try).

I'm new to using blacklists, but I have been putting the same black lists 
on my backup server as I have on my primary server. I've noticed a large 
chunk of the spam goes right to my backup server, so the blacklists stop 
it at the source when they try use my backup server.
