I take a look at whose netblock it is via arin.net. I usually report the
spam to the relevant ISP's abuse@ address, especially if the IP of origin
appears to be some clueless idiot's unsecured Windows box on a residential
cable or DSL line.

If the spam originates someplace from which legitimate mail addressed to my
domain is very unlikely to come, I blacklist the entire enclosing netblock.
I watch my logs carefully to make sure that legitimate mail does not get
caught in this net, which has only happened once-- I blocked a range that
contained Papa John's mailserver, so I didn't get an online pizza order
confirmation once. :-)
