OK.

It seems that whoever the person is who is trying the dictionary attack (I
think that's what you all called it) is doing this randomly from a variety
of network sources.

I have a log full of attempts to gain administrative access on the machine
(a 6500 with OS 9.1) and, unfortunately, finances have not permitted me to
buy a router to sit behind.

That said, however, what's the best way to prohibit this, if at all
possible.

Is this a reactive scenario at best from the administration perspective?

As far as the server being compromised, I'm not really too worried. It's
being used by some folks from my church and a few friends at this point, but
in the future may be used by more.

My curiosity stems from my lack of experience for the most part, but I would
really like to be able to figure out if there is a way to limit this kind of
traffic and/or problem.

Thanks in advance, all.
