Lots of these appear all day long ... can anyone shed some light on this?
It looks like you have SIMS configured to offer POP and SMTP overAppleTalk but have AppleTalk shut down. Unless you have users on anAppleTalk LAN with Claris EMailer, there's no point ion having SIMSoffer that service. It was a very cool proof of concept (that indeedanyone could really put TCP/IP-origin protocols on top of AppleTalkand make it work smoothly) but it is only quaint these days...

-3172 means "address in use." Do you have something else running which would occupy ports 25 and 110?

I've turned off AppleTalk in the SMTP and POP Service Settings (5 channels are now set to 0 channels).
Mark's explanation is more intriguing ... SIMS runs on a machine (LC580) on which nothing else runs ... just OS8.1 and SIMS 1.8b9d14.
I used to run SIMS 1.8b8 on an SE/30 with OS7.5.5 until a few days back and never saw that error msg (-3172).
Any suggestions on what I should be looking for?
