Okay, here's a token stab at that question: the log snippet you
posted seems to indicate that the SMTP client is simply dropping the
connection immediately after it sends a HELO command with a bogus
argument. It isn't even waiting for SIMS to respond with a success
code plus a scolding bit of text.
