please don't get me wrong, but I don't understand your comment. I tried the
-with_bfd argument with or without avr as last part of the directory structure
and BOTH did not work. It looks like that the name I entered as a value to
this parameter is left trimmed or not used - so this parameter is not working
as expected.

On a second machine with a X86-libbfd installed it builds using the x86
components. This leads to the questions:

Why is the problem closed?
What is this parameter used for? If libbfd-x86 can be used it should be
installed like gcc has to be installed and no need to gamble with a parameter
;-)
