Sarita,
What is your goal? Is it to be a user of SIP, or an implementor of SIP?
If you intend to be a user of SIP, then you should investigate what software you can
buy, beg, borrow, or steal. You can get SIP packages that handle much of the detailed
stuff for you, leaving you to do only what you need.
If your goal is to implement a SIP stack, then you need to understand what market you
are in to decide what features you need to implement. If you are new to the SIP world
you probably shouldn't be considering implementing a SIP stack.
If your goal is to be a user of SIP, and you are thinking of implementing your own SIP
stack rather than acquiring one, then I think you ought to reconsider. I think almost
any rational make/buy decision would conclude that this is a bad idea. The popular
perception is that SIP is simple because it is a text based protocol, with some seeming
simple message formatting. While that is true, there is great complexity in how it all
works. It is simple in the same way that Java is simple - you probably wouldn't write
your own Java compiler because you wanted to write Java programs.
