Hi Uri,

If one configure the "Target" as the domain in SRV record, then you
will receive only the domain, and if "Target" is given as "Ip Address"
then you will receive the IpAddress followed by $ORIGIN.

One can configure in DNS

<service> SRV <PRTY> <WT> <PORT> <Domain OR IP ADDRESS >

As per RFC 2782, "Target" is "Domain Name of the host".
But I have seen people putting IP address also as "Target"

Some DNS server do Name Compression for the Target also,
Though it is not permitted as per 2782. Is there any other
RFC permitting this ?

Thx
Samir

Subject: [Sip-implementors] SRV DNS search

Say a SIP client is sending an SRV type of query to a DNS server in order to
locate the appropriate SIP server. What would typically come back from the
DNS server? Is it only the host name of the SIP server, or the IP address as
well?

Thx!

Uri
