Hi Ranga,
It is mandatory for all outgoing requests emanating from an UA to have the
"From" tag, as it is the part of the dialog matching.
For forked requests, which gets a request from a RFC-2543 UA, I do not
think the proxies have the right to insert a From tag. The identification
anyway is done by the Via branch-ids.
Cheers,
Prasanna

Subject: [Sip-implementors] MUST all RFC 3261 Requests have From tags?

Hello!

I am trying to figure out whether from tag assignment for all outgoing
requests is mandatory for RFC 3261 compatible stacks ? Is this mandatory
for forked requests?

Thanks

Ranga.
