MSN, Yahoo and AOL are all closed systems ( with no open defined interfaces, apart from some of MSN ). The only way to find out about the protocols used is to monitor network traffic. For MSN, try this http://www.hypothetic.org/docs/msn/ - it may be out of date with the current protocol used by MSN ( but then, what else is Ethereal for :-) ? ). For Yahoo and AOL, try poking around the source code of gaim at http://gaim.sourceforge.net/ . At the last check, gaim 0.64 could work with all the major IM systems. Microsoft plans on restricting non-MSN IMs from accessing its system from Oct 15th.
Microsoft is the only vendor that has come out in the open with support for SIP for IM purposes ( though, Apple did something with it - http://www.newtelephony.com/news/638.html ) hth, ----- Original Message ----- From: "kaiduan xie" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Sent: Thursday, August 28, 2003 3:00 AM Subject: [Sip-implementors] On the diversity of instant message protocol > Hi, all, > > Now there are so many different instant message > services and clients, for instance, AOL, MSN, YAHOO > messager, and so on.
