Yep sorry I wrote RTP when I meant "media stream protocol du-jour" as it could equally apply to any other media protocol.
Out of interest: now you mention mute pauses etc. RTP, does that mean (in practice) no RTP keepalives get sent at all? So if you mute a call for longer than a stateful NAT or firewall timeout, the call is not likely to be unmutable? I had assumed (always an error) UAs would in practice do keepalives on the media session for their own health (one short silent RTP packet a minute, for instance, not being a hardship).
