Hi Venkatesh ,
If you receive SDP answer in 18x it is a good practice to listen for the
media , because the other end may be playing back "early media" to you and
may even want to do in band digit collection etc ...

Specificaly if the 180 Ringing(instead of say 183) which carries the SDP ,
I have seen implementation which either play a local splash ringback
followed by the media specified in the SDP(danger of clipping) or do not
play the ringback at all but depend on the remote media to play it...

Regards ,
Sayan

Subject: [Sip-implementors] Handling SDP in 180 response.

Hi:

Sorry if this question has been answered already in the mailing list (but I
could not find any references) but here is the question. I wanted to know is
if there are any guidelines/recommendations for a UA as to how SDP in a 180
response is to be handled/interpreted as regards providing local ringback?
Is the recommended behavior that the UA not generate any local ring back and
look for any media from the far end? Or is it considered a good practice to
ignore this SDP until a 2xx is received and continue to provide local ring
back?

Regards,
Venkatesh
