Yes. See section 16 on RFC3261. It talks about proxy behavior.

On page 92.

" A proxy can operate in either a stateful or stateless mode for each
   new request."

Thanks,
Neel

Subject: [Sip-implementors] SIP Proxy Mode?

Hi all,

Is it possible to keep a proxy in a hybrid mode (both Stateful and Stateless
mode).

The RFC 3261 talks about the Stateful Mode and Stateless Mode, but is it
possible that a SIP proxy can act in hybrid mode.

Is there any drafts or RFCs states on this..

Pls help me to get details on the hybrid mode..

Thanks

John Miller
