Hi, PUBLISH may be useful if SIP endpoint doesn't act as a Notifier i.e. if endpoint can only send SUBSCRIBE requests and can process NOTIFY requests.
It means that endpoint decided not to support direct subscriptions from other endpoints. In such case, there must be a presence server present in that network and to update presence server with endpoint presence states, PUBLISH would be the best way to update the presence server so that other interested endpoints in the network can subscribe to state of this endpoint. Also without PUBLISH, further presence updates to other endpoints won't be possible as this endpoint doesn't act as Notifier. This scenario may useful for service providers. PUBLISH should be sent immediatly after the Registration with *OPEN* state so that other endpoints can subscribe to its presence state. PUBLISH should also be sent with *closed* state before unregistering from the presence server. I hope I have answered your query. Plz correct me if something wrong.
