Hi,

3GPP and 3GPP2 are the standards body that define specifications for mobile
phones. It envisons a mobile environment built on IP-based communications
network. SIP is the main protocol selected for multimedia communications
(release 5). The underlying protocol would be UMTS or WCDMA.

The figure relating to OSI model would look something like:

SIP
----------------
TCP/UDP
-----------
IP (v4 or v6)
-----------
other layers
-------------
MAC
--------------
GSM/WCDMA - Air interface

Please correct me if I am wrong.

Regards,
Sai.

Subject: [Sip-implementors] SIP with Cellular Phones

Hello,

I am not sure if this is the correct list to be asking but anyhow!...

I am reading about personal mobility at the moment whereby a user can have one
"number" and can be reached on any device. One the devices can be a mobile
phone. However I am confused as to how a sip call would be delivered to a
mobile phone or what technologies are used for this. If someone could shed some
light on this, I would greatly appreciate it.

Your sincerely,
Vivienne,
