Sudhir,

IMS provides a flexible and abstrat oriented architecture, where one of the
core-components CSCF (Call session control fn) abstracts the underlying access
tech (2g, 2.5g ,3g (tdm), ip etc) and on the other provide abstraction for the
Service logic (either by camel, map, inap, in etc)..

CSCF, simplistically.. is a SIP proxy + registrar together.. put together
powering the network.. IT will also be supported by a HSS (equivalent to HLR in
the wireline world.. providing subscriber related data etc,,for lookup,,). It
also uses DIAMETER..for AAA fn (authorization, authentication & accounting..)..

Again CSCF will be SIP interface element and hence the positioning of SIP
being central to the IMS architecture... Hope things give u some idea..

do look up for more content on the net.. for further details,,,
