Yes, of course you have to hold the state for some time after transmitting a response so that if you receive a retransmission of the request, you can retransmit the response. This *must* apply to *every* request/response, otherwise the protocol could not work. I don't understand why this isn't obvious to everybody. Yet, I see some form of this question asked every few days on the mailing lists.
