Depending on the CONTACT and EXPIRES headers, in the REGISTER request,
the registrar server will take different action. By default your
registration is valid for 3600 seconds ( 1hour ). If the Registrar is
not receiving any REGISTER refresh request after 1 hour, it will
invalidates the registration.

Alternatively, when your Phone gets killed, it can as well send a
Deregister request as part of the close up tasks.

For DEREGISTER Request, Contains the following header field/values.
Contact: *
Expires: 0

Upon receiving this, the server should cancel all previous registrations
from this endpoint.

Subject: [Sip-implementors] SIP Phone Switch Off & Deregister

Hi,

I am implementing a solution based on SIP. I am using X-lite version
3.0. I have done the registration part.

I have a few questions about the registration part

1. When I start the Sip phone it registers on my server
and my server sends back a 200 response. Now If I kill the SIPPhone
application from the task manager how can my server find out that the
phone is no longer connected to the server???

2. Also when I deregister my phone sends the same
REGISTER request to the server. Currently I am deregistering the phone
if the phone is already registered and there is an entry in my database.
My question here is how do I know if a request is a REGISTER request or
a DEREGISTER request.

Have a nice day.

Thanks

Best Regards,

Shrikant
