Subject: [Sip-implementors] Timer for Provisional response if UAC gets
180directly

Hi Everybody,

I have small doubt regarding turning off the timer for provisional
response.
UAC UAS

-------  INVITE----------------->
| | ( No 100 Trying ,
directly 180 / 183 )
<--------183 Session Progress--

In this case even after receiving 1XX response UAC does not turnoff the
timer kept for Provisional response for Invite.

1. Is it mandatory to send 100 Trying ?
[RL] No, 100 is not mandatory if TU send 1xx,2xx in 200ms check sec
17.2.1 of RFC3261
2. 18X doesn't solve the purpose of 100 trying. In what all scenarios it
is mandatory.
[RL] I think 180 does indicate UAC that the request is received in UAS,
and there's no need to retransmit it any more

RFC3261, sec 17.1.1.2

If the client transaction receives a provisional response while in
the "Calling" state, it transitions to the "Proceeding" state. In the
"Proceeding" state, the client transaction SHOULD NOT retransmit the
request any longer. Furthermore, the provisional response MUST be
passed to the TU. Any further provisional responses MUST be passed
up to the TU while in the "Proceeding" state.

Needs your comment.

Thank you
Have a nice day !!
