Yes, Hadriel, you're thinking in a rather PSTN way.  Suppose I change a
few words in your sentence:  "I don't know of many Web servers that
allow requests in from truly unknown sources."  In the Pingtel days, our
gateway SBC would accept SIP calls from anywhere across the great
Internet.  Our current IT administration is a bit more backward.  But
we'll convince them eventually!
