I once bought a commercial packet sniffer with VoIP analysis feature. It 
was very expensive and had nice features - but 6 months later I could 
find these features also in ethereal and 12 months later ethereal 
outperformed the commercial tool.

Since then I am very careful with commercial products. You have to pay 
in the beginning and usually also for updates (even bugfixes). Thus I 
try to stay with open source for above reasons.

Furthermore such commercial testers often praise them with thousands of 
test scenarios and ETSI,TISPAN...tests,  but often lack real world 
scenarios.
