Being able to archive chat sessions for compliance reasons is a key enterprise IM feature and therefore highly desirable. Not sure what you mean by "Chat Room", but this would allow archiving of all chat sessions as far as I understand, not just group chat that takes place in conference rooms.
It seems to be that we would need the "Monitoring Service" plugin installed in Openfire to do this.
