What for?

Why? If I'm not mistaken, at present the domain-config file is
identical on every system; I doubt that changing that presents a
problem, but I'd like to see why the change is requested.

The domain name and the realm value are, by default, the same, but they
don't have to be - they are independent values. Someday we may want to
exploit that.

Certainly by the time we get to multi-branch we will need to have the
operation of writing a phone configuration be abstracted (because the
provisioning service will need to be local to the branch where the phone
is). Ideally, we'd abstract that sooner.
