Using fully qualified path names doesn't avert the problem, as it is the
presence of ".." that is detected.  But of course, if one has the full
path, one can edit it so as to remove the "..".

#2 is well-taken.  In fact, I always take snapshots from the command
line, so I never noticed the problem.  (I was investigating XX-6771,
which requires taking snapshots from the UI, when I discovered the
problem.)

At this point, there appears to be no practical reason to fix this
problem, so I will close it as "no need to fix right now".  If it crops
up again, people can find the Jira and reopen it.
