You are quite correct that you can't change the "username" for a line. Doing that would change the AOR that the phone registers for to "sip:[user]/[serial n...@[domain]", which would not work. Providing instrument identification for the Nortel 12xx phone will have to wait until Paul finds out how to set the auth user name independently.
