Hi Bob,

Thanks for the inputs.
Single IM account could be registered to two Pidgin clients by specifying a unique 'resource' value at each client as you guided on. I guess the the pasted error message (which I mentioned in my previous mail )might have dropped while coming on the list :-( ...Here I am attaching as a screen shot for reference: screenshot_1.jpg

However, if I send a message(IM) from the third client, the Instant message reaches only to/ _one of them_ /and not to both the clients and so is the same if I send an invitation to the Conference Chat.Usually the message will reach to the client which was registered first among the two but not always.

I would like to know whether this is the expected behavior or design intent.

IMHO, I think the message should be delivered to both the clients when sent from third client. Moreover a user would never expect to lose his any Important chat messages :-)
Thanks,
Chitralekha.

Hi All,

This query with respect to registering a single IM account on multiple IM clients(Pidgin clients)

Consider I have a user say [email protected] with the IM account enabled I would like to register this user to two different pidgin clients. One pidgin client at my office and another at my Home. However, when I try this I get the error message on the pidgin client located either on the office or at Home.

First registration with Office Pidgin client worked fine without any problem. But when I registered the same user with the Pidgin client available at Home I get this following message:

The error message is not pasted in.

Build used:4.2.1-018736
Pidgin client version:2.2.6
Could anybody let me know whether this is an expected behavior or a Jira has to be raised.

You will be able to register multiple clients on the same IM account
simultaneously so long as you specify a unique 'resource' value at each client.
The resource is a user-provided string that further qualifies your bare Jabber
Id (u...@domain) to make it unique to the XMPP server. For example, you can
use a resource value of 'work' for your work IM client and 'home/ for your IM
client. I you do that, you'll be able to connect from both places. Let me
know if that works for you.
