Method #1 is regularly used, that's why I would suggest you to ignore
the snom recommendation (that they don't follow themselves) and support it.
(as far as I read

PJSIP & Sofia SIP both accept it)
There is no reason to be picky and reject it when your goal is to
support many phones.
But RFC5939 is definitely the nicest way to do it, but it will takes
time to be adopted.

We support method 2 right now in FreeSWITCH, but we 488 method 1, and
don't do method 3.
What behavior could we change on the freeswitch side to support the most
possible devices transparently?
