Hello sipXers,

Started playing with the Polycom 3.3.1 firmware this evening thought
I'd share a few notes. It's not much, but I hope it's a start towards
getting familiar with the new configuration changes. It's become
apparent that testing this against the 4.2.x release would be a waste
of resources considering the changes being implemented in the 4.4 so
I'd entourage everyone to start testing against 4.4. So far, I think
Tony is the only one! I'll have a Xen Image shortly if anyone is
interested.

1) Download the 3.3.1 firmware from Polycom, upload it as a Polycom
device file, and activate it.

2) Download the native linux version of the conversion utility. For
convenience it’s
uploaded to the tracker (http://track.sipfoundry.org/browse/XX-8833)

3) Install XML::Simple
#yum install perl-XML-simple
#chmod +x cfcUtility.pl

4) Run utility
#./cfcUtility -e cfg,conf,xml -c /tmp/POLYCOM-CHANGES.txt -t
/var/sipxdata/configserver/phone/profile/tftproot

5) Reboot Phones - They should automatically pick up the new changes.

6) Test new features (Remember, sending profiles will overwrite new configs)

Notes:

This is NOT FOR PRODUCTION. Rather it’s simply a means to test
functionality of the new firmware and note configuration changes as
sipX moves foward supporting the latest firmware.

If you are quick, it works well to run the conversion utility while
phones are rebooting after a "send all profiles". this way they all
come up with the new configs.
