This is an intentional cross post, because it involves both users and developers.
A colleague brough this to my attention yesterday... In firmware 3.3/3.4 (polycom) brings the ability for the UA to be a multicast page recipient. While sipx does not have a multicast paging server in it (yet), others have already installed paging servers (i.e. valcom) that are multicast capable. This means you can configure the uri's of the paging group recipients in the paging server and not have to limit the # of handsets that are being broadcast to, etc. Sipx is actually out of the picture except for the single call from the sender to the paging server. It also does not generate lots of yucky traffic. The newer firmware means the vvx500 and soundpoint 335 can be supported in sipx (335 is not shipping compatible with pre 3.3 firmware). I'd like to schedule a work session online to break the polycom configuration before/after parameters up into "sections". Will will take an assignment as would anyone else willing to participate. With that done, maybe we can schedule a second session with some dev help to make the code available and get some guidance to change the parameters so the devs dont have to do all the heavy lifting. I understand there will have to be a method for supporting multiple versions of firmware, but I don't think this can wait much longer. Please feel free to contact me off-list. If you reply on-list, please respond only with your willingness to participate. Lots of "sounds like a good idea" or the like really makes it hard to track how much (emphasis here) WILLING PARTICIPATION can be gained from this community. Thanks!
