I don't think that is possible. The way the phone knows that the nonce is expired is that the registrar rejects it. But in so doing, the registrar gives the phone a new nonce, which the phone uses when it re-tries the registration. As Scott said, the critical thing is that the re-tried registration have the same to-tag as the original registration, since sipX's nonces are specific to the to-tag of the request.
