New user to Sipx.
Been trying to install sipx using single CD install disk using latest
stable build 3.10.1 and was having some issues trying to get to the
point where I could successfully hit the admin pages.
The big picture goal is to have a SIPX behind my home router/firewall
that I can both admin locally from my home LAN or get at remotely/
securely from the internet via both ssh and https.
I ran the install wizard both ...
1. Having DNS set up local to my LAN on the sipx server and...
2. Not doing DNS and putting in my ISPs "Comcast" nameserver IPs.
Finally doing #2 with v3.10.1 I have been able to hit the sipx admin
pages and login to box but only using local LAN IP URL https://
10.0.1.100:8443/sipxconfig/app.
Attempting to hit the pages using the domain name I chose in the
setup process "sipx.<domain>.com" doesn't resolve.
This happens, I believe, because I first need to make sure of 2
things...
1. When I, or a "LAN external" admin person, types in the FQDN domain
name for my sipx box into a browser, and that browser hits a DNS
server, that my DNS settings for my "sipx.<domain name>.com" domain
must resolve to my router's IP address.
2. Then if #1 is correctly in place when those http/https requests
hit my router that my router properly redirects those requests to the
right port(s) on the sipx box on my LAN segment.
So I do have an A Record configured with my domain host "GoDaddy" for
the sipx.<domain name>.com to resolve to my external router IP.
Should I then also ...
1. Set up a custom SRV record at GoDaddy for http and https requests
hitting "sipx."-qualified URLs on my domain or
2. Should I stick with just the A record forwarding of "sipx." to my
router and set up my router for http/s port forwarding to my sipx box
or..
3. do both...
4. Do whole install over with local DNS?
