If the FQDN of my sipx server is sip.company.com and its respective DNS A record
resolves to my SBC's IP address for external use, can the sipX mailbox URL be
modified to something like vmail.company.com with a different IP address that is
port forwarded through my firewall without issue?
I can see the URL specified in /etc/sipxpbx/voicemail.xml and voicemail.xml.in
but but have a comment stating:

above this line:
<!-- Secure fully qualified configserver mailbox URL -->
