I used to be able to see a call in progress when the remote side was 'ringing", 
whether internal or external.

On external calls this was the case too. When I make an external call I do not 
see it in progress until the other side has "answered", at which point the 
elapsed time kicks in from the point where the call hit the proxy. If there is 
no answer or the remote caller hangs up, it shows as "failed" in CDR.
