This is one of the reasons why I use the same domain inside & outside...

If you open ports 80 and 8443 won't the redirect work? Maybe I'm
missing the question.

Subject: [sipx-users] URL redirect question

When connecting to sipx via browser locally, it automatically redirects
from: http://sipx.mydomain.tld to:
https://sipx.mydomain.tld:8443/sipxconfig
What I am wondering is if there is a redirect method that can be safely
used in apache to direct that when not inside he network so a browser
can go
to: http://sipx.mydomain.tld and be autotmatically redirectedto:
https://sipx.mydomain.tld:8443/sipxconfig
I am looking for whether this could be done via redirect in apache
config without affecting either internal environment and regular
operation of apache. I know I can do this via my external DNS via
redirect, but that really requires users connect to a different hostname
altogether to get redirected.
Thanks,
Tony
