I'm kinda thinking out loud when I do that, posting the findings I have at the 
time, just 
in case someone might notice something and have a lead.

All of the above is part of the learning curve since I've never set one up 
before and it's 
not really clear if sipx does most of it for you or not. The note on the side 
panel 
suggests minimal settings and that's certainly not worked for us so far.

Have to get some sleep, my last message posted the solution and we're back to 
exactly how 
things were with the vegastream.

We can make outgoing calls using the new area code but cannot make incoming 
calls to it as 
it gets converted to another area code. Another weird thing, the recording we 
get says 
dial a 1 first. Dialling a 1 first gets us another recording that just says the 
same 
thing, dial a 1 first.
