Michael,

That dial plan works. It didn't occur to me to have fewer digits mapped
out. The delay is negligible, but I will run it by the boss to make
sure he's OK with it before rolling it out.

Thanks for the help, all. I'm learning at ton reading the emails.

Try:

[2-9]11|0T|100|101|011xxx.T|9011xxx.T|*xx|*4xxx|[2-9]xx.T

There will be a slight delay in dialing internal extensions but if you
don't want to dial a 9 that might be the price you pay.

Subject: [sipx-users] Dial plan questions

All,

I am revisiting an old dial plan situation.

In a nutshell, my current dial plan for all phones is:

[2-9]11|0T|100|101|011xxx.T|9011xxx.T|9[2-9]xxxxxxxxx|*xx|[8]xxx|[2-7]xx

With this dial plan, I must dial a 9 to get out.

I would like to be able to dial out without dialing the 9 but rather
have it optional.

In testing, I changed the dial plan on one phone to:

[2-9]11|0T|100|101|011xxx.T|9011xxx.T|9[2-9]xxxxxxxxx|*xx|[8]xxxxxxxxx|[
2-7]xx

Making this change allowed me to dial out to our home area code (801)
without dialing 9. However I still have to dial 9 to get out for any
other area code.

So, I made the following change to the dial plan:

[2-9]11|0T|100|101|011xxx.T|9011xxx.T|9[2-9]xxxxxxxxx|[2-9]xxxxxxxxx|*xx
|[8]xxxxxxxxx|[2-7]xx

The problem is that I am still not able to get out to any other area
code without dialing 9. To further complicate it, I have lost the
ability to dial directly to voicemail.

So, I modified the dial plan again to:

[2-9]11|0T|100|101|011xxx.T|9011xxx.T|9[2-9]xxxxxxxxx|[2-9]xxxxxxxxx|[8]
xxxxxxxxx|*xx|[8]xxx|[2-7]xx

This still doesn't resolve the issue.

So my question I how can I get the functionality I want (to be able to
dial any area code without dialing 9 to get out) and not lose the
functionality that the dial plan I am using provides?

Also, for the record, I have tried the following dial plan in the past
with no success:

[2-9]11|0T|100|101|011xxx.T|9011xxx.T|9[2-9]xxxxxxxxx|[2-9]xxxxxxxxx|*xx
|[8]xxx|[2-7]xx

My understanding is that the handset should be attempting to match the
dial plan in this order from left to right, is that correct? Or did I
mis-understand that?

Thanks, again, for the help.
