This is purely from my perspective. As a utter novice to linux 3 years ago
when I started using sipx, it has colored my perspective on how I would
recommend simplification for future projects

1] provide ports to Windows & Macintosh. Although this isn't "necessary"
and would require extra work, these are the mostly commonly encountered OS.
People understand how to use installers on these platforms and doesn't
require wiping a disk to reinstall [e.g., using the iso disk still requires
booting into linux]. Don't even get me started on trying to install without
the iso

2] allow diagnostics from problem calls from within the GUI to avoid having
to run traces from within CLI. Make it clear, make it simple. Is it a
failed call from the telcom, the gateway, from sipx, or from my
phone?....break it down for us plain and simple.

3] allow management of IP, hostname, DNS, DHCP, server restart from within
GUI. I'd be super happy if I never had to look at a CLI again. Again I had
never used CLI until I started picked up sipx.

4] forums... I vote for this also. Easier for me to solve my own problems.

5] I will reserve my last vote for a future date after I have my morning
double mocha!!

Cheers
