Yes, Tony, that is what we did. But must still click through all the
users to restore their folders. There were no folders under:
/var/sipxdata/mediaserver/data/mailstore
so changing permissions and restoring all the user's mailstore folders
did the trick.

You can do this at a directory level with chmod or just use the webmin
gui
on your ami.

Just a heads up on something we found today.....
I recently updated to sipX 4.0.4 doing a backup restore from 4.0.1.
All seemed well until today I tried to log in to voicemail, but she said
my PIN was wrong.
Then I reset my PIN in my user admin, upon clicking OK, sipXconfig gave:
"An internal error has occurred. Click here
<https://ec2-79-125-17-66.eu-west-1.compute.amazonaws.com:8443/sipxconfi
g/restart.svc> to continue."
It turns out that the backup restore did not set the correct permissions
in the mailstore
Was like this:
drwxr-xr-x 4 sipxchange sipxchange 4096 Jan 26 08:16 autoattendant
drwxr-xr-x 4 root root 4096 Feb 4 10:29 mailstore
drwxr-xr-x 2 sipxchange sipxchange 4096 Jan 26 08:54 prompts
drwxr-xr-x 4 sipxchange sipxchange 4096 Jan 26 08:16 voicemail
Changed it to
drwxr-xr-x 4 sipxchange sipxchange 4096 Feb 4 10:29 mailstore
and it works. Now I just must click through my users (not many, no
problem) so their
mailstores are restored.
