Not sure I follow the question or statement...

I prefer patton gateways. They can do so much more than the typical gateway.

Not sure about the offhook dialing but I used to use the cisco 186/188 and
they worked fine with polycom analog conference squid phones.

Ethernet or pci card (using CENTOS5 CD).  would need 4.04 and 4.2 support.

Have two legacy POTS phones (one a older polycom analog 'bat' phone, one
a security phone).  security phone is programmed to dial a 4 digit
extension already, but lobby phone type support would work also. (and
the security phone does NOT like 30 second MWI signals!  It makes it ring.)

polycom phone at least would need to make and receive calls.

using a couple of old Linksys PAP's now.
