Attendant Directory will timeout if you enter as little as one character and do the lookup accordingly. If you press "2" and the letter "a" appears in several names *(first or last)*, it will list all of them.
If you enter more characters, it starts to narrow that down, but it searches first and last name automatically. Entering more "characters" is better, but not necessary. The AA says "name of the person", it does not specify first or last. I think you assume it wants last. Not so in 4.2.
