During the setup portion of installation of Sipx, is it possible to enter the
IP address of the server as the hostname, and / or give the domain name as the
IP address of the server, thereby making all sip traffic headers IP based and
eliminating the need for SRV records or host names?

The reason I ask is because in the event that our DNS server goes down for a
reboot, all the phones in the office (LG Nortel LIP-68xx) lose connectivity due
to not being able to resolve hostnames until the DNS server comes back up.

Is there a supported way to keep Sipx from being reliant on name resolution?

It's not officially supported, but I think it works OK to use the server's IP
address as the SIP domain.

But you should avoid doing that for anything other than pure test systems,
because you have no ability to change the address of the server. You should
have redundant DNS servers. (You have redundant DNS servers already, right?
Because if your DNS server goes down, all your computers stop being able to
connect to other computers.)
