Unless something has changed, not at all. You can't restore a backup 
from a different version.

You would need to update. You could do the 64 bit conversion from 4.2.1 
32 bit -> 4.2.1 64 bit or 4.4 32 bit -> 4.4 64 bit using back up, build, 
restore. I don't think it would matter when you did it.
