Joegen,

Thanks for the explanation J

I will check my RTP stream, but I do see this in every call on my system,
internally and externally…..

We use the SPA504G phone from Cisco, perhaps you know its normal behavior for a
cisco to wait till it receives the ACK.

Greetings,

Henry

Henry,

Delay in ACK can be of various natural causes. It could be a simply a fluke
where it coincides with the system did not give the thread processing the ACK
even a time-slice soon enough. So for us to really delve into this and give it
a bug status, you need to provide solid evidence that this is a regular
occurence or if not, what are are conditions that might trigger it to happen
occasionally.

Also, ACK for 200 Ok is an end to end thing. Therefore most user agents will
not wait for ACK to start streaming audio since ACK might be travelling a bunch
of SIP proxies and would definitely result to audio getting snipped. User
agents normally start streaming as soon as they send out 200 OK.

The key here is not ACK but to see when audio (RTP) starts streaming from
callee to caller.

In addition to this problem I made some tcpdumps to check what sipXecs is
actually sending…

I noticed this call which I attached as a part of my dump.

I see normal behavior, until sipXecs is not responding to the ACK on the OK
message….

I takes half a second for sipXecs to put this ACK through to the phone…

Any idea why sipXecs is causing this delay?

Henry

Hi all,

I noticed some lag on our production system, when picking up the phone.

When I answer the phone it takes a second before the other side can hear me…

I tried to reproduce on our test environment but there was only a slight lag
(0.2s) from the phone.

I made traces on both systems, and I noticed a difference… On my production
system the ACK after the OK is held by the proxy for half a second, apparently
the phone does not get this, and the proxy sends another one half a second
behind the first attempt. I do not see this behavior on our test system.

I attached the traces, does anyone know what could cause this?

Using sipXecs-4.2.1 both systems are setup identically.

Kind regards,

Henry Dogger
