I never seemed to get the original message to the list, so I'm not sure what ATA you are using. If it is Linksys, be sure to check the Wiki: http://wiki.sipfoundry.org/display/sipXecs/Linksys+SPA-series+ATA+Devices.
For all Linksys devices, there has been a bug in Sipx (now at least partially addressed) where there was a mismatch between the way Sipx creates the profile filename (all upper case) and the way the ATA requests it from the TFTP server (lower case). To be sure you are not hitting this bug, on the ATA device itself, on the Provisioning tab, make sure the the update rule is "$MAU", not "$MA".
