Second, sip trunks are configured as gateway devices...

Third, there are 2 types of SIP trunks, IP based trunks (as
i call them) that have the ITSP route inbound to your
specific IP / port.  The second type is a registration type
SIP trunk that requires a user / password but is not
dependent on your IP address.  There are of course
variations of the aforementioned...

An IP based SIP trunk requires that you open/NAT 5080udp and
30000-31000udp from outside your firewall to inside and tell
your provider to send to the outside of your firewall on
port 5080udp.

A login type SIP trunk (like voip.ms) does not require that
you open 5080udp and 30000-31000 udp inbound to your sipXecs
system because the trunk logs-in and a keepalive is used
that maintains an open session through your firewall.
